After
writing an article on the Green Economy and Youth Nexus, one
of my mentors, although she may not know it (Grace Mwaura), asked a
question that has since been lingering in my mind: why come up with
more subjects on the environmental domain?
Well,
over the last couple of decades, environmental issues evolved from
simple, mere background issues to complex mainstay global issues.
Many studies have been commissioned and undertaken, numerous meetings
have taken place to address a myriad of environmental challenges, and
numerous NGOs have been formed to address the various facets of
climate change and environmental conservation challenges. What has
been a constant in all these activities is that environmental issues
have proven to be more intricate and complicated, as they are
intertwined with many other human development challenges and issues.
In
essence, this means that a clear-cut one size fits all solution is
out of the question. Picking out various facets of this maze of
climate issues and focusing on it has been the approach of many
organizations, institutions and other stake holders in effectively
addressing these issues. For instance, youth all over the world have
brought to the fore the critical importance of addressing
environmental governance issues by taking lead in such initiatives.
By using a divide and conquer strategy, slowly but surely, we would
be much more effective in addressing environmental conservation,
governance and climate change challenges.
Thanks for the response ( and mentoring that i am your mentor, i am humbled), i am glad that you took time to blog about it, now i recommend you review the work of the World Future Council which is an emerging piece of work in the field of environmental governance and which is challenging our ways of thinking about the future, and green economy and the role of generations.
